


Customs authorities have assured garment exporters of maximum cooperation to streamline and accelerate the export of ready-made garments (RMG) through modernized services and simplified processes.
During separate meetings on April 20, 2026, leaders from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) met with top customs officials in Chittagong to discuss strategic improvements. The delegation met with Abu Bashar Md. Shafiqur Rahman (Commissioner, ICD Customs House), Mohammad Shafi Uddin (Customs Commissioner, Chittagong), and Md. Zakir Hossain (Commissioner, Customs Bond Commissionerate).
Faster Clearance The newly established ICD Customs House is expected to decentralize operations, allowing for direct clearance at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) level. This move will significantly reduce both time and operational costs.
policy Updates Commissioner Abu Bashar Md. Shafiqur Rahman confirmed that the ICD Policy is in its final stages. He also noted that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) would be briefed on activating ICD Code-306 by June 1, following BGMEA’s recommendations.
Digital Integration BGMEA leaders, including Acting First Vice President Mohammad Rafiq Chowdhury and Director Faisal Samad, called for a one-stop service and "green channel" facilities. They emphasized the need for a technology-based automation system to ensure transparency and accountability.
Collaborative Oversight Director Faisal Samad proposed forming a joint committee with stakeholders, including the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA), to revise ICD policies and ensure they remain industry-friendly.
Customs Commissioner Mohammad Shafi Uddin noted that separating ICD activities from the main Customs House would increase transparency and dynamism in trade. Bond Commissioner Md. Zakir Hossain added that his department remains committed to resolving emerging issues through direct coordination with the BGMEA.
