Police have recovered the bodies of a man and a woman in separate incidents in Tangail's Nagarpur and Sakhipur upazilas on Wednesday. Both individuals had been reported missing prior to the discoveries.
In Nagarpur, the half-decomposed body of 55-year-old Shawkat Molla was found in a jute field in Binnaojha village. According to his cousin, Aynal Molla, Shawkat had been missing for three days. Nagarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahurul Islam stated that locals discovered the body, which was later identified by family members and sent to the morgue. The motive remains unknown pending a police investigation.
In a separate incident in Sakhipur, police recovered the body of Parveen Akhtar, a 46-year-old widow, from a pond near her home in Ward 7. She lived alone and had been missing for two days. Relatives reported she last spoke to her son, Sohel Rana Fahad, on Monday evening. When her phone went unanswered the following day, Fahad returned from Dhaka and filed a kidnapping case. Following an overnight search, her body was discovered on Wednesday morning.
Fahad alleges his mother was the victim of a premeditated murder and demanded immediate justice. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Basail-Sakhipur Circle) AKM Mamunur Rashid noted that initial evidence suggests murder. The body has been sent to the Tangail Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy as the investigation continues.
