


Former Member of Parliament for Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati-Kamalnagar) and freedom fighter Mosharraf Hossain has passed away. He was 78.
He breathed his last around 1:30 AM on Saturday (June 20) while undergoing treatment for age-related complications at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka. (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Ripon, his nephew and a lawyer at the Lakshmipur Judge Court, confirmed the news on Sunday (June 21) morning.
Family sources announced that his Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) will be held after Asr prayers on Sunday at the Alexander Pilot High School grounds in Ramgati upazila. He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters, and numerous well-wishers.
Mosharraf Hossain had a distinguished record of public service. During the 1971 Liberation War, he served as the Noakhali and Hatia Zonal Commander for the Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF), also known as the Joy Bangla Bahini.
A prominent political figure, he was a former Vice President of the Shahidullah Hall Students' Union at Dhaka University. In 1988, he was elected to parliament from the Lakshmipur-4 constituency representing the Joint Opposition. He later served as the Vice President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) and most recently contested the 2024 national elections for his home constituency.
