Unidentified miscreants destroyed nearly 200 banana trees in a nighttime attack on an orchard in Manohardi, Narsingdi, leaving a local farmer facing severe financial loss.
The incident occurred late Friday night in Harurdia village, under Ward 8 of the Manohardi municipality.
The victim, Noor Mohammad, stated that the attackers chopped down the majority of the trees across his 60-decimal plot under the cover of darkness. He discovered the ruined orchard when he visited the land the following morning.
Noor claims the vandalism was a deliberate act of intimidation intended to ruin him financially. The orchard primarily grew high-yield Sagar and Champa bananas. According to his initial estimates, the destruction has caused a financial loss of approximately Tk 2 lakh.
The incident has left the farmer's family fearing for their safety. They have demanded the immediate identification and arrest of the culprits. Noor confirmed he is currently preparing to file a formal complaint with the police.
Md. Jahangir Badsha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Monohardi Police Station, confirmed the incident. "We dispatched a police team to the orchard immediately after receiving reports of the vandalism," he said. "We have not yet received a formal written complaint from the victim, but once filed, we will investigate the matter seriously and take legal action."
