Students and teachers from multiple educational institutions held a protest march in Sariakandi, Bogra, on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest and trial of the killers of Abdullah Saim Mustakim.
Mustakim, a 17-year-old ninth grader at Nawkhila PN High School, was stabbed to death on May 21 following a dispute over a football match. His family subsequently filed a murder case against the primary accused, Shahadat, and his father, Shah Ali.
At 12:30 PM on Tuesday, the protest procession reached the Sariakandi Upazila Parishad. Mustakim’s family members, classmates, and school officials submitted a memorandum to Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumaiya Ferdous and Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Nur Alam, demanding a swift and fair trial. Local youth and political leaders also joined the demonstration in solidarity.
"Mustakim was a brilliant student who was brutally taken from us," said Biman Kumar Saha, Headmaster of Nawkhila PN High School. "We are demanding exemplary punishment for everyone involved."
Mustakim’s classmate, Zakaria Islam, echoed this demand on behalf of the general student body, calling for immediate justice.
Addressing the protesters, UNO Sumaiya Ferdous assured them that the administration is taking the matter seriously. "I have received the memorandum from the school principal and students. I have assured them that the culprits will definitely face the law," she stated.
OC Nur Alam confirmed that police have already made progress in the case. "We have arrested one person involved in this murder. Efforts are actively ongoing to apprehend the remaining absconding accused. They will be arrested very soon and brought to justice," he added.
