


Police have arrested two men in connection with the theft of 12 Bhori of gold jewelry from a residence in Chattogram city's Akbarshah area with recovering nearly 10 Bhori of the stolen valuables.
The suspects identified as Mahe Alam (30) also referred to as Shah Alam and Md. Monir Hossain (28) were apprehended during a raid in the Pahartali area on Monday.
According to a press release issued by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Tuesday, the theft occurred on the evening of July 20 at a residence in Biswa Colony's K-Block. Thieves made off with cash and various gold ornaments. Following a formal complaint filed by the victim on July' 24 police launched an investigation.
Using CCTV footage and digital intelligence, a team from the Akbarshah Police Station tracked down the suspects. During interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime, leading officers to recover a significant portion of the stolen jewelry including necklaces, chains, bangles and earrings.
Police noted that the prime suspect, Mahe Alam, is a habitual offender with 12 prior cases filed against him for theft and narcotics offenses across various stations.
Akbarshah Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kamruzzaman stated that the recovered gold is being processed for return to its rightful owner. Operations are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and apprehend any other accomplices involved in the ring.
