Reshmi Akhter, the 11-year-old girl who was shot in the eye during a violent attack in the city’s Bayezid Bostami area, passed away on Thursday morning.
She died at 9:45 am while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Hospital Director Brigadier General Taslim Uddin confirmed that Reshmi had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since last Friday, fighting for her life.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of May 7 in the Raufabad Shaheed Minar Gali. Reshmi was caught in the crossfire when a group of criminals opened fire, killing a young man named Raju on the spot. Reshmi, who had just stepped out of her house to buy betel leaf (paan), was struck in her left eye by a stray bullet.
After initial treatment at a private facility, she was rushed to CMCH as her condition worsened. Police have since arrested six suspects in connection with the double tragedy, following a case filed by Raju’s mother.
