As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, the port city of Chattogram has transformed into a hub of departing travelers. Leaving the mechanical pace of urban life behind, thousands have begun their journey to reunite with family. Since Tuesday morning, Chattogram Railway Station has been pulsing with activity, with platforms crowded by passengers eager to reach their roots.
Despite the continuous arrival and departure of trains, the rush shows no sign of thinning. Every coach—filled to capacity at doors and windows—reflects the intense desire of people to share the joy of Eid with their loved ones.
To avoid road traffic and save on costs, a record number of travelers have opted for the railway this year. In response, Bangladesh Railway has launched special initiatives to ensure safe and comfortable travel. On Sunday, Engineer Md. Subaktagin, General Manager (GM) of Railway Eastern Zone, inspected the station’s platforms, ticket counters, and passenger lounges.
Following the inspection, the GM affirmed the railway's commitment to managing the holiday pressure. He issued strict instructions to maintain train schedules, prevent ticket black-marketing, and ensure essential services like lighting, pure water, and cleanliness for passengers.
The Station Manager informed Bangladesh Bulletin that special Eid trains began operating on the Chattogram-Chandpur route on Monday. Additionally, two to three extra coaches have been added to major trains, including the Probal and Saikat Express, to accommodate the surge.
The rush is equally visible at bus terminals in Alankar, AK Khan, and Dampara, where long queues persist despite the heat. For many, the physical exhaustion of the journey is eclipsed by the anticipation of reaching home. As one passenger noted, the year’s hard work feels rewarded the moment they step into their village backyard.
While the transport sector struggles to keep up with the "sea of people," the momentum remains unbroken. For thousands, this is more than just a commute; it is a journey toward the comfort of home and the warmth of family.
