The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has launched a hotline to assist Bangladeshi expatriates whose visas have expired following flight disruptions caused by the war situation in Iran.
Expatriate Welfare, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury announced the initiative while speaking at a Holi festival organised by the Academy for Manipuri Culture and Arts in the Mirzajangal area of Sylhet on Saturday (March 7).
The minister said expatriates whose visas have expired due to cancelled flights can contact the ministry through the hotline for assistance.
“If those whose visas have expired contact the ministry, the government will provide all possible support. The government is committed to resolving the problems faced by expatriate workers,” he said.
He also said the government is monitoring reports of Bangladeshi deaths amid the conflict in the Middle East and has informed the relevant authorities of the concerned countries. The ministry is investigating the incidents and regularly updating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Speaking at the event, the minister also noted that the Holi celebration is an important cultural festival of the Manipuri community and acknowledged that the community faces various challenges. He said the government would take effective steps to address those issues.
