Baklia Police arrested two individuals on Friday for attempting to smuggle 800 Yaba tablets hidden inside the soles of their shoes.
The suspects, identified as Khorsheda Begum, 45, and Shah Jalal Mia, both from Narsingdi, were intercepted at a police checkpoint near the Shaheed Bashruzzaman Roundabout. Acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a search but initially found nothing. However, the unusual thickness and structure of the suspects' footwear drew suspicion.
Upon closer inspection, police discovered the narcotics concealed within hollowed-out compartments in the soles. During initial questioning, the pair reportedly admitted to transporting drugs using this method for some time.
Baklia Police have filed a case against the suspects under the Narcotics Control Act. Both individuals were sent to court on Friday. Authorities emphasized that operations to disrupt local drug trafficking networks will remain a priority.
