At least 17 shops were completely destroyed in a devastating fire that broke out at Kadirdi Bazar in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur on Saturday night.
According to local sources and the Fire Service, the fire started around 10:15 p.m. in Nasir Tailor’s shop at Bachchu Mollah Market, adjacent to the fish market area. The blaze quickly spread to nearby markets, including Aziz Mollah Market, destroying grocery stores, tailoring shops, seed stores, shoe stores, and restaurants.
Firefighters from Madhukhali and Boalmari Fire Stations, along with local residents, brought the fire under control after about one and a half hours of effort. No casualties were reported, but the losses are estimated at over several million taka.
Local traders alleged that fire service units arrived nearly an hour late, which allowed the flames to spread rapidly.
Local UP member Bulbul Hossain said the fire likely originated from an electrical short circuit. Boalmari Fire Service leader Khalek Sheikh confirmed that joint efforts with Madhukhali firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.
Madhukhali Fire Station in-charge Rashedul Alam later confirmed that 13 shops were completely burned, and that it took about 90 minutes to fully complete the operation.
