


A 35-year-old man was beaten to death in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila after allegedly recording a video of a woman bathing. Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident, including the local arbitration judge.
The incident occurred around 8:00pm on Thursday in a house in the Rangeela Bazar area of Mulaid village in Telihati union. The victim, Md Nuruzzaman, son of Mohammad Zaher Khan of Sailabaula village in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh, worked as an excavator driver and was a tenant in the house. His body was recovered by Sreepur police around 12:30am.
According to police, the victim was called to a mediation meeting over the allegation that he had recorded a video of a female garment worker. During the meeting, tensions escalated, and Nuruzzaman was beaten by some attendees. The body was later found in the house by other tenants. The mobile phone allegedly used to record the video was recovered by police.
The victim’s wife, Rozina Khatun, filed a case on Friday afternoon. Additional Superintendent of Police (Kaliakoir Circle) Mirajul Islam said the deceased had severe injuries to his head and neck. Authorities believe he was killed during the arbitration meeting, and the accused then fled. Several people have been detained for questioning, and legal action is ongoing.
Local residents and the victim’s family have expressed shock and demanded justice, emphasizing the violent nature of the incident and the need for proper legal proceedings.
