The foundation stone for a six-storey student hostel was laid at Government Edward College on Sunday (January 18) to address a long-standing housing crisis. The project is being implemented by the AB Trust with funding from Qatar Charity.
Former Chairman of Pabna Municipality and freedom fighter Zahurul Islam Bishu officially laid the foundation stone in the afternoon. The ceremony featured speeches from prominent figures, including Professor Shibjit Nag, Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, Teachers' Council Secretary Professor Kalimuddin, and district BNP leader Nur Mohammad Masum Baga.
Also present at the event was Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Chairman of AB Trust and chief coordinator of the Central Labor Party, who attended as a former student of the college.
College authorities noted that the century-old institution has struggled with student accommodation for decades. Despite previous efforts, the crisis remained unresolved until now. Students and faculty expressed their gratitude to Qatar Charity and the AB Trust for this significant contribution to the campus infrastructure.
