CEC said the election will determine the future of Bangladesh

CEC spokes at a dialogue with the media representatives at the election building in the capital's Agargaon on Monday (October 6th).

The CEC said the election will determine the future of Bangladesh. There is no other way but a good election. They have been preparing for elections since taking office in November 2024. Twenty-one lakh dead voters have been identified and their names have been dropped while updating the voter list. At the same time, about 45 lakh new voters have been added. In particular, awareness campaigns have been carried out to raise interest among women voters, resulting in a large number of women registered.

He said it is not possible for the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the upcoming national elections in a fair manner. This requires the cooperation of all, including the media, people and political parties.

The Election Commission is working to create opportunities for the expatriates to vote, the CEC said, adding that initiatives have been taken to implement the postal ballot system. Through this, expatriate Bangladeshis will be able to vote on the postal ballot after registering online. It is a hybrid system, which is made up of digital and postal ballots.

He wanted to see the election in a festive atmosphere and sought the media's help to raise awareness among the voters so that they would come to the polling stations and vote.

Four election commissioners and media representatives were present at the dialogue, moderated by EC acting secretary KM Ali Newaz.

The CEC stressed the importance of the role of the media. "No matter what we try, the media, the people and the political parties are important. The media can create public opinion and create equal opportunities for all.
