Due to dense fog, 9 flights could not land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport since Friday (January 2) morning. Of these, 4 flights were sent to Chattogram, 4 to Kolkata and 1 to Bangkok.
Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad said that safe landing on the runway was not possible due to reduced visibility. Therefore, these flights were diverted to alternative airports for safety reasons.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that flights will be allowed to take off and land only if the visibility is more than 800-1000 meters. The airlines concerned are providing food and hotel facilities for the passengers of delayed flights.
The Meteorological Office said that the effect of fog and cold may continue in different parts of the country for the next five days. There is a possibility of moderate to dense fog in many places from midnight to morning. In addition, the temperature may drop further in the coming days.
