Co-hosts United States secured their place in the World Cup Round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday. This marks the USA's first appearance in this stage of the tournament since 2002.
Dominating possession in the first half, the US broke the deadlock in the 45th minute. Striker Folarin Balogun capitalized on a deflected pass from Malik Tillman, beating goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj in a one-on-one finish.
In the second half, Bosnia gained momentum after Balogun received a red card for a foul, leaving the US with ten men. Despite this numerical advantage, Bosnia failed to find the back of the net. The United States sealed the win in the 82nd minute when Tillman delivered a brilliant direct free-kick.
The defeat eliminates Bosnia from the tournament, while Mauricio Pochettino’s US squad advances, continuing their strong World Cup campaign
