State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, has leveled serious allegations against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), claiming board resources were misused to serve specific political interests.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on Sunday, the Minister responded to inquiries from Bogra-4 MP Mosharraf Hossain regarding the government's stance on the country’s wealthiest sporting body. Haque expressed deep dissatisfaction with the BCB’s past conduct, alleging that board money and manpower were utilized to disenfranchise stakeholders and protect a particular group's influence.
"A specific group was aided by exploiting BCB resources, effectively depriving others of their voting rights," Haque stated. He confirmed that formal investigations are underway and promised "necessary action" against those found complicit.
The Minister also addressed systemic corruption, noting that the personal assets of certain board officials and employees are now under scrutiny. He expressed intent to collaborate with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to make the findings of any ongoing probes public.
According to Haque, the sports sector has suffered from "stagnation and excessive politicization" since 2008. To combat this, the Ministry is forming a committee to identify individuals appointed illegally through political lobbying. This follows an investigation launched last October into the BCB election process, with a final report expected within 15 working days.
