Bangladesh sealed their first-ever SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship with a dominant 14–2 win over the Maldives on Sunday in Bangkok.
The emphatic victory capped an impressive tournament run in which the Tigresses won five matches and drew one to finish top of the round-robin standings with 16 points.
The Maldives stunned Bangladesh by scoring first in the fourth minute, but the lead was short-lived. Sabina Lhatun and Masura Parvin quickly pulled Bangladesh level, setting the stage for a one-sided contest.
Sabina ignited the comeback with a powerful long-range free kick and later added another after missing a penalty. Bangladesh tightened their grip late in the first half, scoring four goals in the final five minutes to take a commanding 6–1 lead into the break.
Krishna Rani Sarkar, Lipi Akter, Nilufa Yesmin Nila, and Nouson Jahan all found the net during the surge, highlighting Bangladesh’s depth and attacking control.
The pressure continued after halftime. Sabina completed her hat-trick early in the second half and added a fourth goal soon after. Matsushima Sumaya and Nila extended the lead further, with Nila completing her own hat-trick as Bangladesh reached double digits.
Bangladesh added three more goals before the final whistle. The Maldives scored once late, but it did little to slow Bangladesh’s march to the title.
Bangladesh opened the tournament with a 3–1 win over India, followed by a 3–3 draw with Bhutan. They then defeated Nepal 3–0, Sri Lanka 6–2, and Pakistan 9–1 before closing the campaign in emphatic fashion against the Maldives.
