BNP National Standing Committee member and Cox's Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency candidate Salahuddin Ahmed said that in the future, it may be heard that Jamaat-e-Islami fought for the independence of this country. Today, a new attempt is being made to distort the history of the Liberation War in the country.
He said this at an election road meeting in Jangalkata of Konakhali Union, Matamuhuri Organizational Upazila of Chakaria on Tuesday (February 3) afternoon.
Salahuddin also said that a political party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who opposed the independence of this country, is trying to narrate the history of the Liberation War today. In the statement given by their party's Ameer, he presented misleading and untrue information about the declaration of independence of Bangladesh. He claimed that martyred President Ziaur Rahman did not declare independence; Colonel (retd.) Oli did.
Stating that Jamaat-e-Islami opposed the independence of Bangladesh, he said, such statements are not unusual. Because those who opposed the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, they will distort history today - this is natural. But the people of Bangladesh know everything. The people know that today they are trying to establish themselves as a force in favor of the liberation war in a new form, which is complete deception and hypocrisy.
This central leader of BNP further said, Jamaat-e-Islam is trying to add a freedom fighter to the party, practically hire him, and show a signboard that they also have a freedom fighter. By using that freedom fighter, they are trying to show their position in favor of the independence of Bangladesh. But the real freedom fighters of the country will never accept this. We believe that they will protest against it.
Salahuddin said, all the patriotic people of this country, all the forces in favor of independence - will raise a storm of protest against this distortion of history. As a political party worker, our responsibility is to strongly condemn and protest against those who want to create confusion about the history of Bangladesh's independence, spread false information, and distort history, even if in a decent language. It is from that responsibility that I strongly protest their statement today.
Mentioning that a plan to destroy women's employment is underway, Salahuddin Ahmed further said, "In the past few days, they have extremely insulted the women's society of this country; they have compared working women to prostitutes. They have proposed to reduce women's working hours. In reality, this proposal is not for the welfare of women; it is a plan to destroy women's employment."
At that time, Cox's Bazar District BNP Organizing Secretary Jamil Ibrahim Chowdhury, Office Secretary Yusuf Badri, Matamuhuri Organizing Upazila BNP General Secretary Hefajutur Rahman Chowdhury Tipu, Organizing Secretary Shoaibul Islam Sabuj, and leaders of local BNP and affiliated organizations were present.
