Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged violations of the electoral code of conduct in eight districts during the ongoing election campaign. The party said the incidents occurred between Thursday, when official campaigning began, and Friday afternoon.
At a press conference on Friday evening, party spokesperson Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer claimed that the assistant returning officer of Narsingdi-4 (Monohardi) showed bias in favor of a BNP candidate. He said a formal complaint has been submitted to the chief election commissioner.
Jubayer also alleged that BNP activists in Gazipur-5 threatened members of the Jamaat-led 10-party alliance and pressured workers to join BNP processions. He added that BNP banners in the area exceeded the size permitted under election rules.
According to Jamaat, BNP activists obstructed female party members during campaigning in Sirajganj, attacked vehicles, and filmed female activists, inciting crowds with provocative statements.
Jubayer further claimed that in Habiganj-3, images of deceased political leaders unrelated to the party were being used, violating electoral rules. He also alleged that Jamaat festoons were burned in Jhenaidah-4, female campaigners were intimidated in Faridpur-1, and campaigning was obstructed in Lakshmipur-3 (Bhabaniganj). In Cumilla-9, he said Jamaat activist Khalilur Rahman Liton was assaulted during door-to-door campaigning.
Jamaat said it is holding regular press briefings to highlight what it describes as “irregularities committed by rival candidates” during the campaign for the general election and referendum scheduled on February 12.
