Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rakibul Islam Rakib has warned the Election Commission (EC) of intensified protests, including blocking the main entrance of the Election Building, if their demands are not met immediately.
Speaking on the second day of the organization’s sit-in program on Monday, Rakib stated, "We are currently only blocking the main road; however, we will resort to all necessary methods if the EC fails to show goodwill today."
The JCD’s protest centers on three primary allegations of bias:
Questionable decisions regarding postal ballots that JCD claims undermine electoral impartiality.
Allegations that the EC is yielding to "stubborn" influence from a specific political group rather than maintaining professional independence.
A controversial notification regarding the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) student union election, which JCD views as a direct sign of partisan interference.
Over a thousand activists took positions near the EC headquarters, chanting slogans under a heavy security presence of Police, RAB, Navy, and Ansar forces.
The JCD President noted that a 5-member delegation had already met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday to submit these demands in writing. "We want to participate in election activities nationwide starting January 22, but we need a solution today," Rakib added, asserting that activists are prepared to stay through the night if necessary.
