Md. Zahidul Islam, Central President of Islamic Chhatra Shibir, strongly criticized the post-July political landscape, arguing that expected fundamental changes have not materialized in certain circles, and vowed to end various forms of unethical politics in Bangladesh. He made these remarks while addressing a student and youth conference in Pabna.
Zahidul Islam claimed that some parties are treating the July movement (2024 Uprising) as a "business card" and using it for "credit politics," which he believes is "losing the speed of July." He alleged that people are "earning crores of taka by selling July" and that corruption persists in the secretariat and ministries.
He asserted that the sacrifices of the martyrs should not be in vain, demanding an end to the "politics of killing people by throwing stones," "extortion politics," "corruption politics," and "terrorism." He urged the political circle to learn from history.
The Shibir President called for an end to "mud-slinging politics," urging parties to focus on their own agendas for the country's welfare and advocating for "politics of honest people."
Zahidul Islam made severe accusations against the Awami League, citing the 2006 logi-baitha incident and alleging that Sheikh Hasina orchestrated the killing of patriotic army officers to "lease the country to Delhi." He also referenced the massacre of scholars in Shapla Chattar and described the widespread participation in the July Uprising as a "long-standing awakening."
He identified Barrister Najibur Rahman Momen as the "successor of the martyr" and an "icon of the young generation," capable of leading the world Islamic movement. He called on supporters to ensure Momen, whose symbol is the 'scales' (representing justice), is victorious in the upcoming election to establish justice and eliminate discrimination and unemployment.
Special guest Abu Sadiq Kayem, DUCSU VP, echoed the focus on justice, noting that representatives of justice have won in student elections. He urged the public to support the 'scales' symbol and warned that those attempting to come to power through "engineering" would face a worse fate than the fascists.
