Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that there will be no decorative lighting across the country this March 26 to conserve energy amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
The Minister shared this decision following a meeting of the Law and Order Committee at the Home Ministry on Sunday. He emphasized that the move is part of a broader government effort to practice austerity and manage national resources effectively.
While colorful illumination is a traditional hallmark of Independence and National Day, the Minister stated that the current economic situation necessitates a simpler approach.
"This is a strategic decision to ensure we are being frugal with our fuel supplies," he told reporters.
Despite the lack of lighting, the Minister assured the public that Independence Day will be observed with full dignity. Comprehensive security measures will be in place for all state events, including the wreath-laying ceremonies by the President and the Prime Minister at the National Memorial in Savar.
The Ministry has also coordinated special security protocols for Genocide Day on March 25 and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. These steps aim to maintain public order and safety during the busy festive period.
