The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed there is no security threat surrounding this year’s Ekushey February observances in the capital.

Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said on Friday that about 15,000 police personnel will be deployed in and around the Central Shaheed Minar to ensure a safe and orderly tribute to the language martyrs.

He inspected security arrangements at the memorial, where large crowds are expected. “A multi-layered security plan has been put in place, involving police, law enforcement agencies, and volunteers to maintain discipline and preserve the sanctity of the site,” he said.

Referring to the recent national election, the commissioner noted that voters exercised their franchise peacefully, and he expressed confidence that the Ekushey February programmes will also pass off smoothly.

Specialized units, including SWAT, Dog Squad, Bomb Disposal, and Crime Scene teams, will remain on standby 24/7. Intelligence surveillance and cyber monitoring have also been strengthened.

Security measures are not limited to the Shaheed Minar area; police will remain vigilant across the capital. Visitors must enter through the Palashi Mor–Jagannath Hall route and exit via the Romana crossing towards Doel Chattar or Chankharpool. No alternative routes will be allowed.

The public has been asked not to carry sharp objects, flammable materials, or explosives, and to follow designated routes. Visitors should maintain discipline and leave promptly to allow others to pay tribute.

For security and traffic management, road diversions will be enforced at Dhaka University entry points from Friday evening. Teachers, students, officers, and employees in the area are urged to cooperate with traffic instructions.
