Bangladesh has limited the issuance of tourist visas for Indian nationals. Tourist visa services have been curtailed at several Bangladeshi missions in India, according to a report by the BBC.
The report said that tourist visa issuance has been restricted at Bangladesh’s deputy high commissions in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. Earlier, visa services had been suspended at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and the Assistant High Commission in Agartala. As a result, tourist visas for Indian citizens are currently being issued only from the Assistant High Commission in Guwahati.
Although no official notice has been issued by the Bangladeshi missions, officials confirmed that tourist visas have been “limited” since Wednesday. However, other categories of visas, including business visas, remain in operation.
It may be recalled that following the political upheaval in Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, four Indian visa centres in the country were vandalised and protests were held outside a visa centre in Dhaka. Subsequently, India temporarily suspended all visa services. Although the visa centres later resumed operations, India announced that, apart from medical and a few emergency cases, other visas would not be issued for the time being. At present, Indian tourist visas for Bangladeshi nationals remain completely suspended.
