Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain has reaffirmed the interim government's strictly neutral stance, stating that the administration does not support any specific political party.
He made these remarks as the chief guest during the inauguration of 'Caravan', a voting awareness vehicle, at Bhola Government Boys' High School on Saturday afternoon.
The Advisor confirmed that the next parliamentary elections are scheduled for February 12. He emphasized that the government is working to ensure the polls are held in a festive and inclusive atmosphere.
Hossain noted that Bangladesh has not witnessed a "real" election since 2008. He highlighted that the lack of credible voting processes over the last 15 years makes the upcoming election particularly significant.
He pointed out a critical democratic deficit: citizens under the age of 30 have largely never had the opportunity to cast a meaningful vote.
The government's primary goal is to create an environment where every eligible person can exercise their right to vote freely.
The 'Caravan' initiative is designed to mobilize the public and educate them on the voting process, specifically explaining the mechanics of the "two votes" system. The event was attended by high-level local officials, including Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman and Superintendent of Police Md. Shahidullah Kawsar.
