Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, recorded "moderate" air quality on Sunday morning, ranking 13th globally with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 97. This classification, which indicates a light health threat, has been consistent over the past few days.
India's Delhi (AQI 446), Pakistan's Lahore (AQI 339), and China's Shanghai (AQI 208) topped the list with significantly worse scores.
Sensitive individuals are generally advised to consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion when the air quality is moderate.
Dhaka typically experiences unhealthy air quality during the winter months, with conditions improving during the monsoon season.
The AQI measures the concentration of five key pollutants, including PM2.5 and PM10, to inform the public about potential health risks. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is linked to an estimated seven million deaths worldwide annually from various respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
