K-pop icons BTS officially kicked off their highly anticipated "Arirang" world tour on Thursday at Goyang Stadium.
Despite heavy downpours that drenched both the artists and the "ARMY" (their global fanbase), the group delivered an explosive 23-song set, marking their first major tour since completing mandatory military service.
The concert served as a high-octane celebration of the septet's reunion following a four-year hiatus. Band members RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook showcased tracks from their record-breaking fifth studio album, "Arirang." The album recently made history by topping the Billboard 200, while the lead single, "Swim," debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.
The show leaned into a "tougher" sonic palette, prioritizing rap-heavy tracks like Hooligan, Mic Drop, and Run BTS over their smoother pop hits. Despite a lingering ankle injury, group leader RM performed on his feet, though he was carried on a "makeshift throne" during fan segments to protect a torn ligament.
The open-air stadium faced "crazy" rain, leading to several candid moments. V entertained the crowd by pretending to do the breaststroke on the water-slicked stage, while Jimin admitted to feeling "stressed" by the conditions but emphasized that seeing the fans made it worthwhile. The rainy atmosphere added a raw, immediate energy to the performance, with the group focusing more on crowd interaction than their signature synchronized choreography.
Industry analysts are already projecting the "Arirang" tour to be one of the most lucrative in history.
Global Reach: 85 dates across 34 cities, including stops in Tokyo, London (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium), and Manila.
Streaming Success: Over 4 million fans reportedly paid to livestream the opening night on WeVerse, generating an estimated $168 million in a single evening.
Revenue Forecast: Experts suggest total tour earnings could reach $1.81 billion, potentially rivaling or surpassing the record-setting "Eras Tour" by Taylor Swift.
The tour continues for two more nights in Goyang before heading to Japan.
