Local leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a protest rally in Chatmohar, Pabna, condemning a sudden flash procession recently organized by the Awami League (AL).
Initiated by the Mulgram Union BNP, the protest took place in the Railbazar area on Thursday afternoon.
Activists brought out a procession from the Union BNP office, parading through the Chatmohar-Tebunia road and the railway station area before gathering for a rally at the Railbazar intersection.
The meeting was chaired by former Mulgram Union BNP President Jahangir Alam Likhon Biswas and moderated by Upazila Krishak Dal Convener Liton Biswas. It featured addresses from several senior local leaders, including former Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Principal Mahmudul Alam Mahmud, alongside representatives from the Juba Dal, Sramik Dal, and Chhatra Dal.
During the rally, speakers accused Awami League activists of attempting to destabilize the peaceful environment in Chatmohar. Referring to the AL as a "banned" entity, the BNP leaders questioned their political legitimacy, noting that many of the party's top leaders had fled to India.
The speakers issued a stern warning against future AL activities in the area. "The BNP has maintained peace in this region. If you attempt to create unrest by holding secret processions, you will face strict resistance," local leaders warned.
The protest was sparked by a brief, sudden procession (Jhatika michil) held by Awami League activists in the Mulgram area on Wednesday afternoon. Upon receiving the news, local BNP activists rushed to the spot but found the participants had already dispersed, prompting them to organize Thursday's formal protest.
