Farmers are in trouble due to rain at the last moment of harvesting paddy in Niamatpur, Naogaon. This is why farmers' dreams are floating in water. Heavy rain including torrential rain last night caused about 25 percent of the paddy in the field to fall on the ground and about 15 percent of the paddy land was submerged.

A visit to various areas of the upazila showed that most of the paddy land was floating in water. Meanwhile, in Niamatpur upazila, water from ponds, canals and beels came out due to continuous rain, submerging 80 hectares of paddy land.

Heavy rains have been falling continuously for 3/4 hours since Friday night. According to sources from the Niamatpur Upazila Agricultural Extension Department, there is a target of cultivating Aman on 30,505 hectares of land in Niamatpur upazila during the current Aman season. Although paddy harvesting has started in some places and farmers are supposed to start harvesting in full force from next week, the sudden rain has caused a lot of damage to the farmers.

Dhananjoy Mahanta of Bhabich village in the upazila said, "Our ripe paddy of about 12 bighas of land has been submerged in water. I am at a loss as to how to move forward with my family. Moreover, no one from the agriculture office has come to inquire about it in such a difficult time."

In addition, everyone in the area, including Apple, Sabuj, Mamun, said the same thing, we are almost broke after spending our money. If we do not get government assistance, we will have to sit on the road.

When Niamatpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Rafiqul Islam was unable to contact him on his mobile phone, Upazila Plant Conservation Officer Shafiul Alam said on his mobile phone that there is a target of cultivating Aman on 30,505 hectares of land in Niamatpur Upazila during the current Aman season.

Due to heavy rains last night, paddy in various fields of the upazila has fallen and paddy in low-lying areas has been submerged. Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officers are surveying the field to see what damage has been done and are advising to drain the land quickly by cutting off water.
