


Five people, including four members of the same family, were killed on Sunday morning when an overtaking BRTC passenger bus crashed head-on into an ambulance on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in Nagarkanda upazila.
The accident took place at around 10:45 AM near Shankarpasha Bazar under Dangi union.
According to police and local sources, four members of a family from Madaripur were traveling to Faridpur in the ambulance to escort a sick relative to a doctor. The Dhaka-bound BRTC bus attempted to overtake another vehicle, colliding head-on with the oncoming ambulance and overturning. All four family members and the ambulance driver died on the spot.
The deceased family members have been identified as Md. Jahangir Molya, 62, his wife Majeda Begum, 55, his brother Alamgir Hossain Molya, 58, and Alamgir's wife Khurshida Begum, 48. They were residents of Balia village in Mostafapur union under Madaripur Sadar upazila. The ambulance driver was identified as Kawsar Matubbar, 25, son of Shahjahan Matubbar from the Saidarbali area of Madaripur Sadar.
Helal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said law enforcement and fire service personnel rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations with the help of locals. The bodies have been taken to the highway police station for post-mortem examinations.
Nagarkanda Police Station OC Samdani confirmed that both the bus and the ambulance have been seized, adding that legal action will be taken in connection with the accident.
