Four brothers from Rangunia who tragically died in Oman were laid to rest side by side in their family graveyard on Wednesday (May 20).
Following a funeral prayer at the Lalanagar School ground at 11:00 am, thousands of people from surrounding areas gathered to mourn the devastating loss.
The brothers—Rashedul Islam, Shahedul Islam, Sirajul Islam, and Shahidul Islam—were residents of Banderajapara in Lalanagar Union. They had been working in Oman to support their family. On the night of May 12, they died after inhaling toxic gas inside a car in the Al Milidda area of Oman's Al Batinah region.
Their bodies arrived in Bangladesh on Tuesday night. Local MP Humam Quader Chowdhury received the bodies at the airport and joined a special prayer for the deceased. He expressed his condolences to the family and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare, and Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman Rear Admiral Azim for expediting the repatriation process.
To assist the bereaved family, the government provided an immediate financial grant of Tk 35,000 for transportation and burial expenses.
When the bodies reached their village on Wednesday morning, relatives, neighbors, and people from all walks of life gathered to pay their final respects. The sight of four graves dug together for the siblings deeply moved the community. According to family sources, two of the brothers were already married, and wedding preparations were almost complete for two of the others.
