State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

She and Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury spoke to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while receiving the body of Mosharraf Hossain, who was killed in a missile attack in Alkharaj, Saudi Arabia.

“Our main priority is to keep expatriates safe. Those who can return to Bangladesh are being brought home at government expense, while others are being protected locally,” Shama Obaid said.

Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury added that the government will support the families of expatriates killed in the conflict. “The government will initially cover the cost of the deceased’s education, and the children’s education will also be supported later. Additional financial assistance will be provided as needed,” he said.

The body of the deceased arrived earlier Friday morning and was handed over to the family following official procedures.
