Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has assured that the government will resolve the long-standing land allocation issue for the 65-year-old Pabna Press Club.
Speaking as the chief guest at a reception hosted at the District Shilpakala Academy to mark the club's 65th anniversary, the Minister confirmed that an application for the land is currently being processed by his ministry.
"We are working on the allocation," the Minister stated. "The Ministry of Social Welfare will also provide support to ensure this historic institution can continue its operations effectively."
Minister Minu praised Pabna’s rich heritage, noting its contribution to the subcontinent’s intellectual and political history. He emphasized that the district has always been a hub for struggle and rights, producing numerous talented individuals, including prominent journalists.
Reflecting on national development, the Minister highlighted the government’s focus on honesty and patriotism. He noted that the upcoming Padma-Jamuna Barrage project would be a turning point for Pabna’s economy and water security. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he urged all citizens to work together for a prosperous future.
State Minister for Social Welfare, Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul, attended as a special guest. She called on journalists to combat "misjournalism" that hinders national progress. "Journalism is a profession that shapes a nation’s reputation. We expect journalists to point out government mistakes while also highlighting development successes to the public," she said.
The event, presided over by Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, began with the national anthem and a minute of silence for deceased members. Key speakers included MP for Pabna-5, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and Hero Freedom Fighter Anjan Chowdhury Pintu.
The three-day celebration concluded with a cultural performance featuring popular artists Muhin, Liza, and Mukta.
