5 Police Officers Injured in Padma River Ambush

A group of unidentified criminals ambushed a police patrol from the Laxmikunda naval outpost in Ishwardi, Pabna, on Tuesday midnight. Five police officers, including the Outpost In-charge, were injured in the attack which occurred in the Haripur area of the Padma River, under Kushtia district.

The injured officers are In-charge Khandaker Shafiqul Islam and Constables Inamul Haque, Shahinur Haque, Nazmul Hasan, and Manik Mia.

Police sources stated the team was on routine patrol when they reached the Haripur section of the river. Armed miscreants lying in wait opened fire on the police boat. The officers returned fire in self-defense, leading to a brief gunfight. Five members of the naval unit sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.

The victims were initially rushed to Pabna Sadar Hospital. However, due to the critical nature of his injuries, one officer has been transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for advanced care. The others remain under observation at Pabna Sadar.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police, Md. Mashiur Rahman, confirmed that security has been bolstered in the area. A police operation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the attackers.
