Ending a long-standing demand of local residents, intercity trains will finally begin stopping at Muksudpur Railway Station in Gopalganj. The new arrangement will come into effect from April 14, marking Pohela Boishakh (1st day of Bangla year 1433).

According to Bangladesh Railway authorities, selected intercity trains operating on the Dhaka–Khulna and Dhaka–Benapole routes will now hold briefly at Muksudpur station. Among them, the Ruposhi Bangla Express is a key inclusion. Each train has been allocated a two-minute stoppage, aligned with the existing timetable.

The directive was issued by the office of the General Manager (Western Zone) of Bangladesh Railway. The official order, signed by Assistant Chief Operating Superintendent (West) Md. Abul Awal, has already been circulated to the relevant departments, with necessary preparations completed for implementation.

The announcement has sparked widespread and relief among residents of Muksudpur, who have long been advocating for an intercity train stoppage at the station through various movements and appeals.

Local sources indicate that the Member of Parliament for Gopalganj-1 constituency, Selimuzzaman Selim, played a significant role in making this initiative a reality through his continuous efforts.

Speaking on the matter, the MP said, “This was a justified and long-standing demand of the people of Muksudpur. I had promised to address this during the election, and I am delighted to fulfill that commitment on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh. This will not only ease transportation but also boost the local economy.”

Residents believe that the introduction of intercity train stoppage will significantly reduce travel difficulties for passengers traveling to Dhaka, Khulna, and Benapole. It will save both time and costs while ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey. Business activities, especially goods transportation, are also expected to benefit greatly.

Md. Siru Mia, President of the Muksudpur Press Club, stated that this initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in the region’s communication system and will contribute positively to its overall development.
