A mobile court fined the Golden Line Transport counter Tk 20,000 on Tuesday for charging passengers excessive fares in Boalmari, Faridpur. The drive was conducted at approximately 6 pm in the Boalmari old bus stand area, led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shibbir Ahmed.
Authorities initiated the raid following persistent complaints that the transport company was charging significantly more than the government-set rates. Upon verifying the allegations, the magistrate summarily fined the counter management.
Passengers at the scene noted that fare hikes are common ahead of Eid. Many expressed that while they often protest these increases, they are ultimately forced to pay the higher prices to reach their destinations, causing significant public hardship.
Local commuters welcomed the mobile court’s intervention, suggesting that regular monitoring would curb transport sector irregularities and reduce passenger harassment.
Executive Magistrate Shibbir Ahmed confirmed that Golden Line Transport was charging Dhaka-bound passengers nearly 40 percent above the official fare. He also noted that local petrol pumps were warned against illegal stockpiling and price hikes.
"Our monitoring campaigns will continue to ensure public interest is protected," the magistrate added.
