A rural doctor narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt at gunpoint in Dublia Thakurpara village, Pabna Sadar, late Saturday night. The victim, Vrindavan Maitra, son of the late Vinod Chandra Maitra, is a prominent member of the local Hindu community.

The incident occurred around 11:15 PM after Vrindavan returned home from his pharmacy in Dublia Bazar. Family sources report that an unidentified individual called him to his balcony, claiming a patient needed urgent care. When Vrindavan stepped outside, a group of miscreants attempted to abduct him. As family members and neighbors raised an alarm, the attackers fired blank shots to intimidate them before fleeing the scene.

The incident has sparked panic among local residents. Initially, the victim’s family was too fearful to report the matter to the authorities.

However, upon learning of the event, the newly elected MP for Pabna Sadar, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, intervened. On his instructions, a delegation led by district BNP Senior Joint Convener Abdus Samad Khan Montu and former office secretary Zahurul Islam visited the doctor’s home. They assured the family of their safety and emphasized that no "evil forces" would be permitted to destabilize the area.

Vrindavan Maitra stated, "I have no known enemies and was initially too terrified to seek legal action. However, after receiving courage and support from the MP’s representatives, I am now preparing to file a formal case."

Zahurul Islam, political aide to MP Shimul Biswas, confirmed that the MP has directed the local administration to take strict action without compromise.

District Detective Branch (DB) OC Rashidul Islam confirmed that police have visited the site and launched a serious investigation. "We are working to identify and apprehend those involved. Security in the area has been significantly strengthened," he added.
