A 35-year-old man was allegedly dragged from his house and hacked to death by rivals over a long-standing land dispute in Borhanuddin upazila on Friday afternoon.
The attack took place around 5:15 PM in Chotapata village under Deula Union. The deceased was identified as Mainuddin, son of Nesarullah.
Local sources said Mainuddin’s family had been locked in a bitter land dispute with a local influential group, the Faizullah Gong, leading to repeated clashes in the past. On Friday afternoon, opponents allegedly launched a pre-planned attack on Mainuddin, hacking him indiscriminately with sharp weapons before dumping his body into a nearby pond.
Witnesses and locals rescued Mainuddin and rushed him to the Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
The victim's father, Nesarullah, demanded exemplary punishment for the killers, stating that the rivals had been threatening his family for a long time and executed a calculated murder.
Borhanuddin Police Inspector (Investigation) Ripon Kumar Saha confirmed the incident, stating that initial inquiries point heavily toward the land dispute. Police have already arrested one suspect, identified as Bajlu, and are conducting raids to arrest the remaining attackers. The process of filing a formal murder case is underway.
