


Police have arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member in connection with the murder of Iqbal Hossain Howlader a mentally unstable man in Nalchiti upazila.
The arrestee Md. Badal Hossain is a member of Ward No. 3 in Nachanmahal Union. He was apprehended by police on Tuesday morning following a raid led by Sub-Inspector Sufal Sarkar.
According to police records Iqbal Hossain Howlader was brutally attacked and hacked with sharp weapons on Sunday near Khagrakhana Model School. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (ShebaChim) in Barisal.
On Monday, the victim's elder brother Md. Ansar Ali, filed a murder case at Nalchiti Police Station. The complaint names Badal Hossain as the primary accused along with seven others and 66 unidentified individuals. The family alleges the killing was motivated by a long-standing land dispute.
Nalchiti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ariful Alam confirmed the arrest, stating that Badal Hossain has been sent to court. "Our operation to arrest the remaining suspects is ongoing," the OC added.
