Youth Hacked to Death in Nalchiti Body Recovered from Pond

A 27-year-old youth was hacked to death by miscreants in Nalchiti upazila of Jhalakathi, police said. The deceased Aminul Islam Babu, was the son of Md. Alamgir Hossain Talukdar from Nachanmahal village.

Police recovered Aminul's body from a pond next to Krishnakanta Roy’s house in Kuralia village at around 2:30 PM on Sunday (May 24). Investigators believe his killers dumped the body there to hide the crime.

According to police and local sources, Aminul went missing after leaving his home at around 9:00 PM on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, locals spotted his body floating in the pond and alerted the authorities. A team from the Nalchiti Police Station subsequently recovered the body.

Nalchiti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ariful Alam confirmed that the body bore multiple sharp weapon wounds.

"We initially suspect that miscreants hacked him to death and threw the body into the pond," the OC said, adding that legal procedures are underway to send the body for an autopsy. Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the killers.
