A grocery and bKash agent shop was attacked and vandalized in Morelganj upazila on Friday morning, reportedly after the shopkeeper refused to sell goods on credit. The clash left four people from both sides injured, including a woman.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM in the Kuchiamra area of Gulishakhali village under Nishanbaria Union.
The injured have been identified as shop owner Madhu Hawlader (40), his wife Nazmin Begum (36), their son Nazmul Hasan Siam (20), and the opposing party's Rafiqul Islam Munshi (48). All four were initially rushed to the Morelganj Upazila Health Complex.
According to Madhu Hawlader, the dispute began when Rafiqul’s son, Tariqul, tried to buy beverages on credit. When the shopkeeper's son refused, an enraged Rafiqul led a group of 15 to 20 men armed with sticks and sharp weapons to attack the store. The attackers allegedly beat the family, vandalized the shop, and looted cash and merchandise.
Refuting the claims, Rafiqul Islam Munshi asserted that it was Madhu Hawlader who attacked and seriously injured him. Due to his deteriorating condition, doctors at the Morelganj Hospital later referred him to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudur Rahman stated that no formal written complaint has been filed yet by either party. He assured that legal action will be taken as soon as an official complaint is received and investigated.
