An emergency meeting of the council has been held in the incident of insulting the chairman of the Garikhali Union Parishad of Paikgachha, Khulna, GM Abdus Salam Keru. As per the decision of the council meeting, two local youths insulted Chairman Keru on Saturday morning, February 14, over the issue of lifting and selling old bricks from the road. An emergency meeting was organized in the Garikhali Union Parishad on Sunday afternoon, February 15. In the meeting, all the members of the council unanimously condemned the insulting incident and demanded that those involved in the incident be brought to justice immediately.

Chairman GM Abdus Salam Keru, UP Secretary Taiyebur Rahman, UP members Gausul Ali Sardar, Akhter Hossain Gain, Sarat Chandra Mondal, Ayub Ali Sardar, Achintya Sardar, Bikash Chandra Mondal, Abdul Momin, Shiuli Parveen and Jamuna Rani Vaidya were present in the meeting.

According to the complaint received, a tender was held under the World Food Program to renovate a one-kilometer road towards Bainbaria Bridge in Garikhali Union of the upazila. Due to the renovation, The old scattered bricks were given to the Union Parishad by the Development Organization Sushilan for lifting at its own expense. Later, on December 4, 2025, the Parishad held a meeting and decided that the chairman would lift the bricks at his own expense and sell them to adjust the lifting costs. It was decided to preserve the remaining bricks for the use of the Parishad if necessary. As per the decision of the Parishad, Chairman Abdus Salam Keru lifted the bricks at his own expense and stored them on the side of the road. After that, 5,000 bricks were used for road renovation work in the South Kumkhali constituency in the National Parliament elections from the Upazila Engineering Department. On the other hand, the chairman sold 2,250 old bricks and the molds to cover the lifting costs.

In this context, GM Abdus Salam Keru said that on Saturday morning, I went to the Garikhali market to see the development work. Rana and Ramzan present there took the old bricks from the road and abused me in foul language. However, the matter of lifting the bricks, adjusting the lifting costs and storing them was done as per the decision of the Parishad meeting. They were with me unnecessarily. Misbehaved. Later, when the video was shared on social media, there were mixed reactions among the general public in the area. There was an argument over this, but Rana Ramzan claimed that no incident of humiliation took place.
