


In a major operation ahead of the national election, joint security forces recovered seven firearms and a significant haul of local weapons from a pond in the Sadar Upazila of Faridpur on Saturday.
The recovery occurred between 1:00 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. at the Kanaipur Sugarcane Center area. Acting on intelligence reports, the joint forces—led by the Bangladesh Army—drained a local pond to uncover the arsenal hidden beneath the water.
Lt. Col. Minhazul Abedin (PSC), Commander of the 15 Riverine Engineer (RE) Battalion, detailed the seized items during a press briefing at the Faridpur Army Camp, Firearms: 4 foreign-made pistols with 16 rounds of ammunition and 2 sawn-off pipe guns with 2 rounds. Lethal Weapons: 5 Chinese axes, 65 standard axes, 8 spears, 6 knives, and 101 "rain heads" (spike-tipped weapons). Other Items: 5 glass bottles and 1 teta (fishing harpoon).
The recovered weapons and ammunition have been moved to the joint forces’ camp. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings and the filing of a formal case are currently underway. This operation is part of an intensified nationwide crackdown to maintain law and order during the election period.
