Saraswati Puja, a major religious festival of the Sanatan (Hindu) community, is being observed today, Friday, at various temples and educational institutions across Pabna with religious and cultural programmes.
According to tradition, Saraswati Puja is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the Bangla month of Magh. Goddess Saraswati, revered as the deity of knowledge, wisdom, and fine arts, is symbolically worshipped on this day.
Depicted in white attire and seated on a white swan, the goddess holds the Vedas and a veena, for which she is also known as Veenapani. Devotees believe she blesses people with learning, creativity, and moral values.
The puja is being held at several schools, colleges, temples, and homes, including Pabna Zilla School, Government Girls’ High School, Central Girls’ High School, and Pabna University of Science and Technology.
Alongside the main rituals, the celebrations include floral offerings, distribution of prasad, religious discussions, and cultural programmes. In many places, children are introduced to learning through the traditional ‘Hatekhari’ ceremony in front of the deity.
