


Saraswati Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Sanatan (Hindu) community, was celebrated with day-long programs at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU).
The celebrations were held on the university campus on Friday (January 23), beginning in the morning. Former PSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Swadesh Chandra Samanta attended the event as the chief guest.
Special guests included Professor Dr Gopal Saha of the Department of Agronomy, Professor Dr Anup Kumar Mondol of the Department of Economics and Sociology, and Professor Dr Oli Roy Chowdhury of the Department of Physics and Mechanical Engineering.
Also present were Professor Sujan Kanti Mali, convener of the Saraswati Puja Celebration Committee 2026; Ripon Kumar Shil, member secretary; Pratyush Roy Hriday, president of the Sanatan Sangha; Joy Chandra Barman, general secretary; along with teachers, students, officers, and staff of the university.
According to the programme schedule, the day began at 8:00am with the installation of the idol and religious rituals. This was followed by floral offerings and distribution of prasad. After a brief discussion session with the guests, the celebrations concluded in the evening with a cultural programme.
Speaking at the event, Professor Dr Swadesh Chandra Samanta said religious and cultural festivals such as Saraswati Puja play an important role in promoting harmony and communal coexistence on university campuses. He thanked the organising committee for arranging the programme.
He also said work is underway to convert the campus temple into a permanent structure and to build boundary walls, calling it a positive initiative. He prayed for wisdom, knowledge, and moral guidance for the students and expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organising the event.
Throughout the day, the campus remained lively, with enthusiastic participation from students adding to the festive atmosphere.
