The entire district has come to a standstill with the news that the president of the Kurigram district Jubo Dal, Md. Raihan Kabir, is no more. He breathed his last at around 11 pm on Monday (December 29) while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in Dhaka (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun).

Kurigram district Chhatra Dal president, Md. Amimul Ihsan, confirmed his death and said, “We have lost a leader like a guardian.”

Raihan Kabir was the worthy son of the late Maulana Muhammad Mozammelul Haque, former principal of Kurigram Alia Madrasa. Carrying his father’s ideals and teachings of honesty in his heart, he saw politics as a unique medium of serving the people throughout his life.

Party and family sources said that he had been suffering from various complex physical problems including heart disease for a long time. Despite his ill health, he did not shy away from his commitment to the party and the country. Although he went abroad several times for better treatment, he has repeatedly returned to the field at the call of political responsibility and fellow fighters.

Recently, while attending a program organized in Dhaka to mark the return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to the country, he suddenly fell seriously ill. From there, he was quickly admitted to Dhaka United Hospital. Despite the best efforts of doctors and the prayers of relatives, this devoted leader finally left for the country of no return.

The sky of Kurigram seems to have become heavy with grief after the death of Raihan Kabir. The party office, the streets and the common people have only one word on their lips - "A good man left too soon." The leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, BNP and its affiliated organizations are deeply shocked and saddened by his untimely demise.

Kurigram District BNP Convener Md. Mostafizur Rahman Mustafa expressed deep sorrow and said, "On behalf of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We have lost a selfless, honest and dedicated comrade. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdous - Amin."

District BNP and family sources said that on Tuesday after Zohr, his father will be buried at the Kurigram Alia Madrasa ground in the district town after the Namaz-e-Janaza.
