Two people were injured in an attack over a long-standing land dispute in Bogra’s Sariakandi upazila. The incident occurred in the Chandina Noar Para area of Sadar Union. Following the clash, Helaluzzaman (Hiru) filed a written complaint against four individuals at the Sariakandi Police Station.
According to the complaint, Md. Saheb Ali and Majedur Rahman Sona, both residents of Chandina Noar Para, have an ongoing property dispute. An argument broke out between the two parties at around 10:00 am on Thursday (June 4), escalating into an attack that left Saheb Ali’s son, Md. Momin Mia, and daughter, Shahana Begum, injured.
Fearing for their safety during the attack, the victims called the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the National Emergency Service (999). Police promptly rescued them from the house and took them to the Upazila Health Complex. After receiving medical treatment, Helaluzzaman filed a police complaint against four suspects: Majedur Rahman Sona, his son Md. Mintu Mia, Sihab, and Mintu Mia's son Johan.
Helaluzzaman alleged that the attackers vandalized their fence, water line, and water tank, causing an estimated loss of Tk 50,000 in an attempt to illegally occupy the land.
"When my elder brother, Md. Abdul Momin, tried to record the vandalism on his phone, the accused attacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons with the intent to kill," Helaluzzaman said. He added that his family is living in extreme insecurity. "Since my family members are government employees, the accused are threatening to jeopardize their jobs. We fear they may attack us again at any moment."
In response to the allegations, the primary accused, Majedur Rahman Sona, denied the violence. "We only went to clear our own land and did not harm anyone," he said. "We have an ongoing dispute, but they have delayed resolving it. If their property documents are valid, I will concede the land. If mine are valid, I will take it. They are unnecessarily creating trouble instead of sitting down to resolve this properly."
Inspector (Investigation) Nur Alam of the Sariakandi Police Station confirmed receiving the written complaint from Helaluzzaman. "Legal action will be taken after a thorough investigation," he stated.
