Foreign Affairs State Minister and Chairman of the Faridpur Medical College Hospital Management Committee Shama Obaed Islam has directed the hospital administration to take a zero-tolerance approach to irregularities and broker networks operating on the hospital premises.
She issued the directive on Saturday (August 29) after a meeting of the hospital management committee held at the conference room of Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Shama Obaed said the hospital has been facing serious problems caused by brokers allegedly operating around its services.
“There is a serious problem with brokers at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The administration has been instructed to identify the network as quickly as possible and take legal action against those involved.”
She said strict legal measures would be taken against irregularities at the hospital and stressed the need to ensure that patients can access medical services without interference from unauthorised intermediaries.
The state minister said the management committee meeting was held for the first time in seven years since she assumed responsibility as its chairperson.
She described the meeting as an important step toward addressing the hospital's longstanding problems, but acknowledged that the institution continues to face significant challenges.

According to Shama Obaed, although the hospital is described as having a 1,000-bed capacity, it does not currently have adequate facilities to accommodate the actual patient load. As many as 2,000 to 3,000 patients reportedly seek treatment at the hospital every day.
She also alleged that a number of medical machines purchased during the previous government period have become unusable, further complicating the hospital's service delivery.
The management committee discussed several measures to address these problems and took important decisions regarding the hospital's development and service capacity.
Management Committee Vice-Chairman and Faridpur-3 MP Nayab Yusuf Ahmed also spoke at the meeting.
Among others, Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mintu Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police of Faridpur Sadar Circle Azmir Hossain, Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Manas Kumar Kundu, Assistant Director Md Omar Faisal, and Faridpur Medical College Principal Professor Asif Ul Alam attended the meeting.
Other doctors and officials of the medical college hospital were also present.
