Security forces in Nepal have arrested 29 people in Dhading for breaking open a bank vault that was swept away by severe flooding from the Trishuli River, originating in Rasuwa and surrounding upper catchment areas.
A joint patrol team from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police caught the suspects while they were illegally extracting cash from the damaged vault. Authorities recovered Rs.9,268,505 in cash from the scene.
According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abi Narayan Kafle of all 29 suspects are currently held at the District Police Office in Dhading where investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
Security agencies have stepped up surveillance and patrols across flood-affected regions to prevent theft, looting and vandalism targeting public, commercial and private property during the ongoing disaster response.
